Which activities should I use earplugs for?

We recommend earplugs and custom ear moulds for any hobby or recreational activity that involves dangerous noises that reach or exceed 85 dB for long periods. This can help avoid permanent damage to your eardrums and reduce ringing in the ears.

  • Music concerts
  • Cooking in a loud kitchen
  • Hunting or shooting practise
  • Riding motorcycles
  • Swimming
  • Gaming
  • DIY and power tools
  • Playing in a band
  • Watching live motorsports

And much more.

If you work in loud environments your employer should provide you with suitable ear protection to ensure your safety.

The Control of Noise Regulation Act 2005 must be met by your employer to deem the work environment safe. Ear protection must be worn in any working environment that reaches or exceeds 85 dB for long periods and must be provided by your employers.

    How to protect your ears?

The best way to protect your ears is with our custom ear moulds, they are tailor-made to fit your ear canal for comfort. Unlike foam earplugs, custom earplugs are made by taking an impression of your ear canal and designing the earplug to specifically fit your ear canal. This makes them comfortable, safe and efficient at reducing noise. In the case of an emergency foam earplugs will provide adequate protection, the foam will create a good seal that will reduce noise.

What decibel level should ear protection be worn?

Ear protection should always be worn in an environment that reaches or exceeds 85 dB for more than 8 hours. Exposure at this limit will cause ringing in the ears and permanent damage.

Can you use headphones as ear protection?

It is a common misconception that you can use headphones to block dangerous noises. Noise-cancelling headphones (ANC) can reduce unwanted noises effectively but are not designed to give protection against dangerous noises. Dangerous noises that reach or exceed 85 dB can cause ringing in the ears and permanent damage. Headphones will not have been tested or certified as ear protection, you should wear protection with a reduction rating. They will be marked by SNR or NRR rating which is a certification that your ears will be protected.

Do you need ear protection for sleeping?

We recommend wearing ear protection when you sleep to improve your quality of life. Custom ear moulds are designed for comfort and relaxation which will help block out disruptive noises and promote a peaceful environment for you to fall asleep in. Sleep is important for physically recovering and allows your body to rest. Whilst it resets and relaxes your mind for another day.
